TikTok gift goal overlay: a coin goal your whole chat fills

Updated · Stream Evolution team

There are two ways to run a gift goal on TikTok LIVE: TikTok's built-in LIVE goal, or a coin goal bar overlay on your stream that the whole chat fills together. Here's what each does well and how to set up an overlay goal in OBS, Streamlabs or Meld in about five minutes.

Two kinds of TikTok LIVE goal

People searching for a "TikTok coin goal" usually mean one of two things, and they work quite differently.

1. TikTok's built-in LIVE goal (formerly Wishlist)

TikTok has its own goal feature, set in the LIVE Goal pop-up. According to TikTok's help article, you:

  1. Write a description of the goal.
  2. Pick the gift or gifts and the quantity you want.
  3. Optionally add a prize, something you'll do when the goal is reached.
  4. Choose whether to show it as a sticker with the sticker toggle.

It's good for a specific ask ("10 Roses and I'll sing") and it lives inside TikTok, so viewers see it in the app without you running any extra software.

2. An on-stream gift goal bar overlay

An overlay goal is drawn on your video by your streaming software, as a browser source in OBS Studio, Streamlabs Desktop or Meld Studio. You place it in your scene like any other overlay, and gifts from chat fill it up.

Vibzy's Bus Battle is one example: every gift adds its coins to a bus meter on stream. Fill the meter and the bus levels up, and your best level stays on screen. Because every gift counts, even a Rose moves the bar, and chat fills it together instead of waiting for one big gifter.

Short version: use TikTok's goal for one specific gift ask, and an overlay goal when you want a shared target the whole chat can see moving on screen.

What you need for an overlay goal

  • A TikTok account that can go LIVE. TikTok requires you to be 18+ and to have a follower minimum that varies by region (often reported as 1,000).
  • A way to stream from your computer: OBS Studio, Streamlabs Desktop or Meld Studio.
  • A gift goal overlay tool that reads your TikTok LIVE gifts and gives you a browser-source link, such as Vibzy (free during the beta).

How to set up a TikTok gift goal bar in OBS, Streamlabs or Meld

  1. Connect your TikTok account

In Vibzy you log in with TikTok through the official TikTok Login Kit, so Vibzy never sees your password. Bus Battle then counts the coins from every gift in your LIVE.

  2. Copy your browser-source link

Copy your Vibzy overlay link (your browser source link). Keep it private, the same way you would a stream key.

  3. Add it as a browser source

In OBS Studio, click + at the bottom of the Sources dock and pick Browser. In Streamlabs Desktop, click + in Sources, choose Browser Source and click Add Source. In Meld Studio, click + in the Layers panel and choose Browser. Paste the link into the URL field. Full walkthroughs: OBS, Streamlabs, Meld.

  4. Match the size to your canvas

Set width and height to your canvas size: 1920×1080 for landscape, or 1080×1920 for a vertical TikTok canvas. OBS starts browser sources at 800×600, which can squash or cut off the overlay.

  5. Place the goal where chat will see it

Keep it clear of your face, your game's UI and the parts of the screen TikTok covers with its own buttons and comments. Top or side edges usually work well.

Test it before you go LIVE

Check the bar shows in the right spot and isn't cut off in your preview, and that the background is transparent. Send a test from your overlay tool if it has one; in Vibzy you can test each alert with a click. If you just changed something and the overlay looks stale, use Refresh cache of current page in the OBS browser source properties.

Tips: pick a goal size and make it clear to chat

  • Pick a size chat can see move. A goal that barely moves all stream feels out of reach. Start with a goal you expect to hit, then raise it next time if it filled early.
  • Say it out loud. New viewers join all the time. Every so often, say what the goal is, how close you are and what happens when it fills.
  • Pin it in chat. A pinned comment with the goal and the prize answers "what's the bar?" without you repeating yourself.
  • Show what each gift does. Vibzy has a page for your viewers that lists every alert and how to set it off. Share it so chat knows exactly what their gift will do.
  • Celebrate the level-up. When the bus levels up, react, thank the people who helped and set the next target.
  • Keep the prize something you'll actually do. Promise only what you're happy to deliver on that stream.

Troubleshooting

The goal bar doesn't show

Check the browser source is visible (eye icon) and above your camera or game in the source list, and that the link is pasted in full. Then refresh the source.

The goal bar doesn't fill when gifts come in

Make sure you're LIVE on the TikTok account you connected to your overlay tool, and that the overlay is the one on your current scene. If you have Shutdown source when not visible on in OBS, the source stops while its scene isn't showing.

The overlay has a black background

Browser sources are transparent by default. If you see black, check the Custom CSS field in OBS hasn't been changed, or that something behind the source isn't black.

The goal bar is cut off or tiny

The source size doesn't match your canvas. Set width and height to 1920×1080 (landscape) or 1080×1920 (vertical), then resize the source so it fills the canvas.

No sound on level-up

Sounds play through the browser source, so check it in your audio mixer. In Meld, use Add an audio track for the source under the URL field.

FAQ

What is a TikTok gift goal overlay?

It's a goal bar drawn on your stream video by your streaming software, usually as a browser source in OBS, Streamlabs or Meld. Gifts from chat fill it up, so everyone watching sees how close you are.

Is the TikTok LIVE goal the same as the old Wishlist?

Yes. TikTok's LIVE goal was formerly called Wishlist. You set it in the LIVE Goal pop-up by writing a description, picking the gift or gifts and how many you want, and optionally adding a prize.

Can I use the built-in LIVE goal and an overlay goal at the same time?

Nothing stops you, but two goals can confuse chat. If you run both, make one the main goal you talk about and keep the other small, for example a specific gift on TikTok's goal and a shared coin goal on screen.

Do gift goal overlays work in TikTok LIVE Studio?

We haven't verified that, so we don't claim it. This guide covers OBS Studio, Streamlabs Desktop and Meld Studio, which all support browser sources.

How big should my coin goal be?

Big enough that it takes a group effort, small enough that chat can see it move during the stream. Start with something you think you'll reach, then adjust next time based on how your LIVEs actually go.

Who can send gifts toward a goal?

TikTok says you must be 18 or older to send or receive LIVE Gifts (19 to send in South Korea), and 18 or older to go LIVE.
