How to add TikTok LIVE alerts to Meld Studio

Updated · Stream Evolution team

To get TikTok LIVE alerts in Meld Studio, add your alert overlay link as a Browser layer on top of your scene and turn on its audio track. It takes about five minutes, plus a minute to test.

Meld's TikTok login connects your chat and events, but if you want your own alerts (your GIF, your sound, your text for each gift, follow or comment), the route is the same as in OBS: an alert tool gives you a web link, and Meld shows that page as a layer. Below is exactly where to click, the size to use, and how to make sure your chat actually hears the alert sounds.

What you need

  • Meld Studio installed, with a scene you stream from.
  • TikTok LIVE access. You must be 18+ to go LIVE, and TikTok asks for a follower minimum that varies by region (often reported as 1,000).
  • A TikTok Stream Server and Stream Key if you want Meld itself to send the stream to TikTok. Not every creator gets one (more below).
  • An alert overlay link from a TikTok alert tool. We use Vibzy in this guide, but the Meld steps work for any browser-source link.

Connect TikTok as an output in Meld Studio

If you already stream to TikTok from Meld, skip to the next section. Alerts don't need this step to show in your preview, but your viewers only see them if the stream goes out with them on it.

  1. Open Streaming Outputs

Go to Settings → General → Streaming Outputs, or open the Outputs panel. Click + Add output and pick TikTok.

  2. Log In to connect chat and events

Click Log In and sign in with TikTok. Per Meld's docs, this connects your TikTok chat and events to Meld. It does not fill in your stream details.

  3. Paste your Stream Server and Stream Key

Copy the Stream Server and Stream Key from TikTok and paste them into the TikTok output. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it can stream to your account.

No stream key? TikTok doesn't give one to every creator and doesn't publish the rules. Streamlabs reports that creators using third-party software must stream at least 50% gaming content. If you don't have a key yet, you can still build and test your alerts in Meld now. If you'd rather use Streamlabs (it can go live to TikTok without a key), see TikTok alerts in Streamlabs.

Add TikTok alerts to Meld as a Browser layer

This is the part that puts gift, follow and comment alerts on your stream.

  1. Copy your overlay link

In your alert tool, copy your overlay link (your browser-source link). In Vibzy you log in with TikTok, make your alerts, and copy your Vibzy overlay link. Don't share it on stream or in chat.

  2. Add a Browser layer

Select the scene you stream from. In the Layers panel click + and choose Browser.

  3. Paste the link into the URL field

With the new layer selected, find the URL field in the Inspector and paste your overlay link.

  4. Turn on the audio track

Right under the URL field, switch on Add an audio track for the source. This is the step most people miss: without it, your alerts pop up on stream in total silence. Use CUE on that track if you want to hear the alert sounds in your own headphones.

  5. Set the size with W and H

Type the size into the W and H fields so the layer covers your whole scene (see the table below). Then position it to fill the frame.

  6. Put the alert layer on top

Drag the Browser layer to the top of the Layers list. Anything above it (camera, game capture, frames) will cover your alerts.

Size: landscape vs vertical TikTok

Make the Browser layer the same size as your scene. That way the overlay decides where alerts appear, and nothing gets cut off or stretched.

How you streamW × H for the Browser layer
Landscape (16:9)1920 × 1080
Vertical TikTok (9:16)1080 × 1920

Streaming vertical? Check your alerts on a phone once. TikTok's own buttons and chat sit over the video in the app, so keep the alerts that matter clear of the edges.

Test it before you go LIVE

Don't find out on stream that the sound is off. Do a dry run with Meld open:

  • Fire a test alert. Most alert tools have a test button. In Vibzy you can test each alert with one click. Watch it appear in Meld's preview.
  • Check the sound. Turn on CUE for the Browser layer and listen. If you see the alert but hear nothing, the audio track isn't on.
  • Check placement. Make sure the alert isn't hidden behind another layer or off the edge of the frame.
  • Check the volume balance. Alert sounds shouldn't drown out your mic. Turn the alert audio down in Meld until both are clear.

Once it works, the layer stays in your scene, so you only do this once per scene.

Troubleshooting TikTok alerts in Meld Studio

The alert doesn't show

Check the Browser layer is in the scene you're actually streaming, that it's visible, and that it's at the top of the Layers list. Re-paste the link into the URL field: a missing character is enough to load the wrong page. Also check your alert tool is connected to your TikTok account.

No sound from alerts

Select the Browser layer and confirm Add an audio track for the source is on. Then check that track isn't muted or turned all the way down. CUE only affects what you hear, not what the stream hears.

Overlay has a black or white background

Alert overlays are made to be see-through so your scene shows behind them. If you see a solid background, you've most likely pasted the wrong link, such as your alert tool's dashboard instead of the overlay link. Copy the overlay (browser-source) link again and paste it in.

Alerts are cut off or tiny

The layer size doesn't match your scene. Set W and H to your scene size (1920×1080 or 1080×1920) and make the layer fill the frame instead of scaling it down by hand.

Alerts show in Meld but viewers don't see them

Viewers only see what Meld sends to TikTok. If you go LIVE from somewhere else (for example from your phone), the Meld layer isn't on that stream. Going LIVE from your phone? Vibzy's phone app can play your alerts there too: scan a QR code to pair.

What to set up next

Once alerts work, give your chat something to work toward. A gift goal on screen turns one-off gifts into a group effort; see how to set up a TikTok gift goal overlay. Vibzy's Bus Battle does this as a bus meter that levels up every time your chat fills it. Using OBS on another PC? The OBS guide covers the same setup there.

Vibzy is free during the beta. If you want gift, follow and comment alerts with your own GIFs and sounds in Meld, join the beta.

FAQ

Can Meld Studio stream to TikTok LIVE?

Yes. Meld has a TikTok output: add it under Settings → General → Streaming Outputs or in the Outputs panel with "+ Add output". You paste the Stream Server and Stream Key from TikTok yourself, so you need TikTok LIVE access that gives you a key.

Does logging in to TikTok in Meld give me a stream key?

No. According to Meld's docs, Log In connects your TikTok chat and events to Meld, but the Stream Server and Stream Key still come from TikTok and you paste them in.

How do I add a browser source in Meld Studio?

Meld calls it a Browser layer. In the Layers panel click "+", choose "Browser", then paste the link into the URL field in the Inspector and set the size with the W and H fields.

Why can't I hear my alert sounds on stream in Meld?

Turn on "Add an audio track for the source" under the URL field of the Browser layer. Without it the layer is picture only. Use CUE to listen to the layer yourself.

What size should my alert layer be for TikTok?

Match your scene: 1920×1080 if you stream landscape, 1080×1920 if your scene is vertical. A full-size layer means alerts land where the overlay places them.

Why doesn't TikTok give me a stream key?

TikTok doesn't hand a stream key to every creator and doesn't publish the exact rules. Streamlabs reports that creators using third-party software must stream at least 50% gaming content.
